what's in my bag?

i love writing vulnerable essays for my Substack, cutting open my chest and pouring my heart out. But, i’m also just a girl, and sometimes i don’t have the emotional or mental capacity to even think of what to write (let alone write it).

So, while sitting at my laptop mulling over today’s post, i reached across the desk to grab one of the gazillion tubs of Vaseline that exist in our lives and figured i would share a sneak peek inside my new office bunny bag. Because who doesn’t like to snoop, right?

So here we are. A fun post to distract you from the Sunday scaries <3

The MVP, the super squishy Ölend Ona Soft Bag, is off of the wish list i wrote a couple of posts ago. The one where i salivated over a bunch of delicious things i’d buy instead of a new car.

It’s the colour of cherries, it’s waterproof and it can fit everything i need for a road trip to the office (on the rare occasions i go, that’s a whole other story).

It was an IRL gift (swoon) and has quickly become my favourite throw-it-all-in and roll-out-the-door bag.

Here’s what you will find inside:

• MacBook Air

• wireless Apple keyboard

• wireless Apple mouse (hardcore fruity tech girl)

• linen pouch i ordered from Aerende way back in 2018. It’s filled with pain meds, spare eyeballs, an HDMI adaptor to connect the laptop to the big screen, and a bunch of charging cables

• keys, on a bunch of different *keyrings collected over the years. Sounding a little like a jailer, it jangles with hardware for home, office, (new) car and even the postbox

• realllly old Ray Ban sunnies, in case the low winter **sun hits my eyes as i’m driving

• brass pencil sharpener, obscurely shaped like a grenade... i like pencils (Blackwing, invariably) and anything brass; shrugs

• old school AirPods, for blocking out co-workers and for calls (also for music and podcasts, if stomping up the track at home)

• Vaseline, because lips need lip balm (it’s the law). Also, is it a tub of Vaseline if it’s not all smooshed to the side after being tossed around in the laundry?

• Aesop hand balm

• cloth pencil pouch full of fineliner pens and highlighters (grey and peach, i can’t do garish fluorescent colours)

• stretchy unicorn pen. Also known as the penis pen, for giggles. In my defence, i didn’t make this NSFW connection until it was pointed out to my innocence. i play up to it now, obvs

• couple of Field Notes. i’m a digital girl, utterly digital in so many ways, yet somehow i still crush hard on paper

• calculator. One of those items where, if it must be practical, it damn well must be aesthetically pleasing too (pun half intended)

• Stood laptop stand. Because the combo of wood and simplicity fills my heart

• old gnarly painted floorboards, model’s own.
